KIDS DURING WORSHIP
We love children at Christ Church and welcome them into the life of our congregation. Our goal is to shape their hearts and minds by engaging them in the Christian faith. Check out the ways we involve our kids in our worship and also the various age-appropriate opportunities we offer.
God is not only the shepherd of the adult members of our church, but also of our children. We embrace this promise at Christ Church and build upon it from a child’s earliest days. Our nursery is one of the first places your child will encounter the fellowship of Jesus’ body. There we strive to love them well, providing a safe environment while also praying for God’s blessing to follow them all of their days.
We offer two nurseries each Sunday morning:
Infant Nursery (0-1)
Toddler Nursery (1-2).
Both nurseries are open throughout the School of Discipleship and Worship service. Our nurseries are under the direction of paid child-care professionals and further staffed by volunteers. All volunteers undergo background checks to insure a safe environment for our kids.
As our kids move out of the nursery, we engage them with age-appropriate instruction to teach them about God’s love and his plans to renew our world through Jesus. Kids are like sponges, absorbing everything we teach them. Also, we find they respond well to clear expectations lovingly set out by our teachers. Our goal is to create a comfortable, nurturing environment that engages them with the foundations of Christian belief.
During our School of Discipleship, we offer three classes for kids:
Preschool (3-4 years old)
As students enter the 6th grade, we graduate them into our youth ministry. Our goal is not to take kids away from the home, but to partner with parents as students mature and learn to live out their faith in practical obedience. We strive to mentor our students through a combination of large group instruction, small group interaction, and personal relationship with older Christian believers. A healthy number of social activities are also offered allowing our youth to connect.
There are two classes during the School of Discipleship:
Middle School (6th-8th grade)
High School (9th-12th grade).
We love children at Christ Church! They are so valuable when they are involved in our service. While it can get rowdy at times, we believe that our kid’s participation in worship shapes them in significant ways—and reminds us of what a childlike heart before God looks like.
During our service, we encourage parents of young children to keep their kids in worship as long as they like. We also provide age-appropriate care and instruction for kids. Parents with children ages 0-2 may drop-off their kids in the Nursery (0 – Walking) or the Toddler Room (Walking – 2 Years Old) where a team of trained child-care professionals and volunteers await them.
Children ages 3-6 are dismissed to Children’s Chapel after we recite the Creed. They retreat upstairs with our teachers where they study God’s Word—and have a blast the entire time! All children above nursery age return to the sanctuary for the final hymn so that we close our worship with the family of God together.
On the third Sunday of the month, we celebrate Holy Communion. Children ages 3-6 are dismissed before the Scripture readings and return during the congregational greeting to join us for our celebration of the Lord’s Supper. While many of our kids are not prepared to share this meal with us, we believe there is great value to their inclusion in this celebratory feast. They are invited to come forward with families, where the elders pray for non-communing children. This tangible expression of God’s grace in Jesus Christ often provokes great discussions for families with even the youngest of children. An optional nursery is provided for younger children (ages 0-3) during the communion portion of the service.
